The last few days I have been fully involved with touring and viewing beautiful landscapes around the central coast of California.  Thanks to a very special friend and her husband, my husband and I were able to join them on a private tour May 11, of the Pierdras Blancas Lighthouse near San Simeon, CA.

This historical Lighthouse is surrounded by a natural ecosystem  and an outstanding natural preserve for wildlife.  "Archeological investigation [of this area] in the fall of 2005 yielded a radiocarbon date of organic materials dating back about 3300 years before present time.  The Spanish history of the area dates back to the Portola land expedition in 1769" (Piedras Blancas Light Station Association, www.piedrasblancas.org, p. 2 of pamphlet dated January 2011).  According to the information on this site, construction of the lighthouse tower began in 1874, and the light was first illuminated in 1875.

This antique structure is beautiful from every angle.  I took many photos and hope to paint several works of art using these enlarged digital images in my studio.  I would love to return with permission to complete a few paintings en plein air.  On the day we visited, the weather was sunny and clear with a great breeze.  Everything for miles was lit with brilliant colors.  We all felt blessed to witness such a beautiful day.  Please call for touring times, and take a friend to witness this amazing site with architectural antiquities, historical cultures, gravity of eco systems and migrating natural wildlife.   It is truly a sight for inspiring artistic minds.  --Jan
